STEVE'S STORY Lived the first thirteen years of my life in Gary, Indiana. Earliest memories of my mom listening to Hank Williams upstairs while dad listened to jazz in the basement. Enjoyed the many diverse influences of the neighborhood, especially the Mexican and Blues sounds. I bought my first guitar about this time. I could play Beatle songs but also enjoyed picking out Wes Montgomery riffs. Rock and roll was interesting but not really essential to my listening pleasure. That is until I heard The Greatful Dead's 'Anthem of the Sun'. That album changed everything. Love's 'Forever Changes', Blue Cheer's ' Vincibus Eruptum', Pink Floyd's 'Piper at the Gates of Dawn', Frank Zappa's 'Freak Out' and of course, 'Sgt. Peppers Lonely Hearts Club Band'. These musical masterpieces were followed by Alice Cooper's 'Love it to Death', Coltrane's 'A Love Supreme', Exuma's 'Obeah Man', Sun Ra's 'Rocket Number Nine' and a host of others. It was about this time I switched to bass guitar. Tried to emulate the upright bass sounds I heard on jazz records. Then the mind expanding, eye opening times of change began. Met Lou Who, who introduced me to Captain Beefheart Then it was The Mahavishnu Orchestra, Return to Forever, Passport, Miles Davis... fusion music. At the same time absorbing the sounds of Keith Emerson, Robert Fripp, the Moody Blues, and Roxy Music. Something about those lush orchestrations and this new instrument, The Moog. The the biggest change, Brian Eno's emergence as a solo artist. The album 'Here Come the Warm Jets' was the turning point. Bought my first synth, a Micro Moog, and I was hooked. Worked with rock (Cosmos, Live Juice), blues (Erskine Johnson Band), jazz, new wave (Methods), punk (The Bunkers), noise, and synth bands, although I never really changed my hairstyle much. Have written over 120 songs including the cult classic 'Downers' with Rick Scobey in the '70's. Now enjoy writing in my 24 track home studio as well as working at Shark Tank Studios with the band LONG. Oh yea, have I mentioned LONG? Shouldn't have to if you've read the other members biographies. Why repeat what has already been said. 'Almost There' was fun to write and produce and I am looking forward to writing the next album. In the meantime, I am writing songs for my solo project entitled 'The Squeemish'. That's not a typo, that is intentional. So, in the words of a genius, "Fast and Bulbous". That says it all.
