HERMENEGILDO GALEANA
(1762 - 1814)
It was born in Tecpan, Gro. Trabajaba in the property the Trench, property of a
cousin his, when along with his Antonio brother got up to the forces of Morelos
the 7 of November of 1810.
It took with himself some men and arms and the small called tube " the Boy
" whom it had bought to an English ship in Acapulco. It participated in the
beginning in small actions, but in 1811 it defeated an Tixtla to the realists,
took Taxco and it entered Cuernavaca. The following year it was in the site of
Cuautla and the battles of the Palmar, Acultzingo and Oaxaca. In 1813 it was
distinguished in the taking of the castle of Acapulco.
Between him and Morelos one formed signs friendship and even it risked his life
to save the one of Cura de Arácuaro. Born strategist, quickly promoted marshal.
But its good star began to decline and was defeated in the Zapote and 1814 in
the Trench where it reorganized his troops and it attacked Coyuca, although
without success. Persecuted by the enemy it fell when striking itself with the
branch of a tree. The soldier Joaquin of Leon shot to him in the chest and he
cut the head to him, taking it like trofea to Coyuca.
